How do I ask elderly people for a " donation?

Me and My friends are going around my neighbor hood asking for a donation for the children's mansion and our goal is 1,000 dollars but I'm using some of that money to buy the sims 3 for wii ((( btw if anybody has one for free I'll take it))) and Idk what to say so please help me '-'
