How do I keep track of dogs in a HUGE house?

I'm moving into a 30 thousand square foote home to take care of my elderly grandmother and I'm at a dilemma... I have three small dogs and 2 cats that would need to come with me! I'm worried that they will get trapped somewhere or stuck in a room (the house is very old and has a ton of rooms) and I won't be able to find them or they will hurt themselves! I CAN'T! Leave them and just want some tips! Should I get gates or something!
