Who's Abe on the Today show?

This morning I was watching the Today show and its Meredith's last day. The had a video montage of her running outside and the song don't stop believing. When she first started to run she hugged this elderly man named Abe and I'm just wondering is he like the boss or something? By the way or btw does anybody feel sad that Meredith is leaving? I sure do.
