Why do I feel this way?

I am 10 and I feel bad for the sick, poor, and sad elderly and all of the homeless, but I can live with kids dying of random diseases. I couldn't care less about sick kids. To me, the elderly and homeless mean WAY more to me. I want everyone to have a home, have family, and he happy in general. The kids these days will do nothing for society .But the elderly and homeless can, but they can't. Do you feel the same way?
